Experience and Areas of Interest

I have many years of experience in working with clients who have suffered abuse or trauma in their lives and have studied this subject in-depth. I have studied the connection between psychology and neuroscience to understand what is happening in both the brain and body during and after trauma.

Having spent much of my adult life overseas I have a good understanding of cross-cultural issues. I have used this experience to work with people who have been exposed to challenging situations in international humanitarian settings, with NGOs, missionary organisations or as volunteers in the field.

Other areas of personal interest relate to my past career as a vet in practice. I currently volunteer on a specialist support helpline for those in the veterinary profession, who are facing challenging situations in their working lives.

Qualifications

I hold a Diploma in Integrative Counselling (Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland, COSCA accredited) which enables me to use different counselling approaches to suit individual client needs.

Additionally, I have a Diploma in Clinical Supervision, qualifying me to provide the necessary professional supervision to other counsellors. I am also a trained spiritual director.

As a member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a recognised professional body, I adhere to their code of ethics and their requirement for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and regular external supervision.

I am PVG-registered (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) through Disclosure Scotland.
